UNDER 8's Mountain Ash 6 - 5 Pontypridd
TRY Scorers for Pontypridd: Liam Huxtable, Bradley Hawkins (2), Christian Cox & Logan Evans.
Ponty under 8's made the trip up to Mountain Ash on a cold and muddy Sunday morning for another close competitive game between the 2 teams. After a long delay before kick off the games finally got underway with Ponty having enough players to field 2 separate teams.
The first quarter was a close affair with both teams tagging really well. Mount broke the deadlock with a well taken try to lead 1-0 at he interval. After the break a full change to the Ponty team saw Mount take a 3-1 lead but Ponty were beginning to settle with some great running and support play. Liam scored a fantastic try after taking a pass off Logan then beating several defenders and sprinting to the line.
By the 3rd and 4th quarters Ponty were in full stride and managed to pull some tries back with Bradley in the thick of the action scoring 2 great tries. Theo and Olivia were making good ground in attack and it lead to Christian finishing off a well worked move in the corner. A charging run through the defence by Logan saw the final touch down of a very entertaining game. Well done all !

UNDER 8's Pontypridd 7 - 12 Llantwit Fardre

Ponty welcomed Llantwit Fardre to Taff Vale park and came up against a formidable, well drilled team with plenty of talent.
The game started off with Llantwit taking the game to Ponty, despite some determined running and handling moves Ponty struggled to cross their opponents line and were stopped just short on 6 tags a number of times. Llantwit used their pace and support play to devastating effect and quickly took a 7-1 lead at the halfway stage. Ponty's only score coming from a well taken try by Hannah.
Ponty found their feet after Llantwit made some changes and some determined running by Morgan, Logan and Jimmy set up tries for Theo, Bradley and Daffydd. Christian crossed for a great solo try towards the end of the game and it was rounded off with Logan scoring his second of the game. The game was played in excellent spirit with Llantwit deserved winners.

UNDER 8's Pontypridd 4 - 8 Abercwmboi

Ponty welcomed an excellent Abercwmboi team for a return fixture at Taff vale Park. Three 20 minute spells were played with both teams playing with superb attacking intent against determined defence.
Ponty started the game at full speed and went ahead after Dafydd used his speed to break away for the try line. The game then swung back and forth and Ponty scored further tries by Owen, Liam and Hannah. Aber replied by scoring some great tries and during the final third took a real stranglehold on the game.
Well done - great effort!

UNDER 8's Brecon 5 - 7 Pontypridd

Ponty under 8's received a warm welcome from their hosts Brecon. Thirty minutes of fast, free flowing rugby were played with both teams showing an excellent level of skill.
The game started with both teams tagging well as the ball was turned over a number of times. The deadlock was broken by a superb passage of play by Ponty. The ball was fed to Hannah out wide who went on a great weaving run up-field who then gave a perfectly timed pass to Daffydd who took the ball at speed to cross in the corner. Owen was next on the score sheet as he rounded the defence from close range.
Pontys defence continued to keep Brecon under pressure and soon further tries were scored by Daf and a fantastic effort by the hard working Jimmy. As the game went on Brecon started to find some gaps out wide but Ponty through the straight running of Gethin, Liam, Jimmy and Hannah always made good ground when they had the ball. Liam scored a deserved try in the corner and Iza was rewarded with her first try after good support work.
Well done to the whole team, a good start to 2012!!
UNDER 8's Pontypridd 16 - 7 Rhiwbina

Ponty Under 8's visited Rhiwbina at Caedelyn Park for 40 minutes of entertaining rugby played in good spirit. Both teams dealt with the harsh weather conditions admirably and looked to attack at every opportunity.
As Rhiwbina had a large turnout to face Pontypridd they split their squad in 2 teams while Ponty due to unavailability and injuries - notably to Cory and Kiki who have a broken arm and broken ankle respectively were only able to field 12 players (get well soon boys!).
The game started with Pontys terriers chasing tags with vigour straight from the off. Daffydd was in superb form in both attack and defence ably supported by Gethin, Owen, Bradley and Liam who were always in the thick of the action. Hannah and Christian stood their ground superbly out wide and stopped many threatening attacks by Rhiwbina. Some fine individual tries were scored by the likes of Daffydd and Jimmy while Ponty also impressed with some good teams tries.
Well done both teams!

UNDER 8's Pontypridd 5 - 5 Brecon
TRY Scorers for Pontypridd: Christian Cox, Ashton Lloyd, Hannah Sullivan, Owen Richards & Dafydd Wash.
Ponty Under 8's played 2 games in a round robin fixture at a muddy Cilfynydd against Rumney and Brecon. The morning started with a very close, competitive game against an excellent Rumney team.
Ponty started the game showing great organisation in defence and quickly forced a turnover for their efforts. Owen took the ball from the restart and stepped off his right foot to beat the defence and speed up the left touchline to score in the corner. The game then swung both ways as the 2 teams tried to attack at every opportunity but found the opposing defence difficult to break down.
Several impressive attacks by Ponty were halted just short of the line on the 6th tag. Daffydd then broke through and used his speed and devastating sidestep to edge Ponty ahead at halftime. Further tries were scored by Bradley who showed good support on the shoulder of Hannah and Owen who took the ball from a re-start close to the line and sneaked in at the corner for the winning try.
Next up were Brecon who had shown a few weeks earlier how dangerous they could be in attack. From the first play the ball was fed to one of their talented runners and Brecon went ahead 1 nil. Ponty responded with a superb try by Christian showing great vision and pace. Brecon though kept attacking well out wide as Ponty were guilty of some half hearted tagging. Tries by Owen, Dafydd, Ashton and a great effort by Hannah ensured Ponty earned a deserved 5 all draw.

UNDER 8's Pontypridd 15 - 8 Kenfig Hill

Ponty Under 8's produced an outstanding performance over 40 minutes of entertaining rugby at Kenfig Hill. The whole squad played their part in what was a clinical display of running, ball handling and support play.
The game started off with Ponty firmly in the driving seat preventing Kenfig Hill from making any progress in attack and using the turnovers to finish off some great tries by Aidan, Owen, Liam and Christian. After the first break the Kenfig 'mules' started to gain in confidence and scored some nice tries out wide but Ponty kept replying with strong running by Jimmy - who had a great game and scored 2 deserved tries, Iza, Olivia and Gethin. Some of the passing was sublime as Ponty spread the ball to score further tries by Bradley and Theo.
At the halfway point the score was now 7-5 to Ponty as 'the mules' produced a great fightback. Ponty though moved up another gear as the superb Owen rounded off some good moves to score a total of 4 tries! Liam side-stepped his way through the defence to cross for his second. Cory got himself on the score sheet after cutting inside from his diagonal run and Gethin capped another excellent performance with a try after a burst through the middle.
Try of the game came from Christian, Owen made a great break to run up-field being chased by several defenders and after being tagged just short of the line he turned and quickly popped the ball to Christian who plucked the ball out of the air and raced over in the corner.
Well done to the whole team!

Ponty Under 8's received a warm welcome from Nelson and produced 2 excellent performances showing superb running and handling skills on a heavy pitch.
The first game saw Ponty up against a very determined, energetic Nelson team. Ashton was the first on the score sheet beating several defenders on the outside to touch down in the corner. Hannah then scored the first of her 2 tries showing great vision to switch the direction of attack and race away to the try line. Jimmy was tagging everything that came his way and Ponty were soon able to capitalise on a number of turnovers.
Theo side-stepped his way to the line just before the break. Jimmy and Hannah both after good handling moves and the highlight of the second half was Logans weaving run up the touchline for the final score of the game.
The second game saw Ponty up against Nelson U8's team. Pontys tagging was again excellent. Superb Dafydd scored the first of his 2 tries showing great support on the shoulder of Gethin. Liam then jinked his way to the line as Ponty started to take control of the game. Skipper Gethin was running straight a hard and scored a deserved try after a strong burst through the middle.
Nelson who were always willing to attack from deep hit back with a great try of their own just as Owen rounded off a great game by taking the ball at pace from a restart slicing through the first line of defence and outstripping the cover to the line...

UNDER 8's Pontypridd 16 - 10 Brecon

Ponty welcomed Brecon to the Cilfynydd feilds for freindly match played in excellent spirit. Both teams showed their respects admirably by honouring a minute silence for remembrance day just before kick off.
The game started with both teams swapping tries at will with the feature of Pontys game being their excellent support work and Brecon showing great running skills. Aidan was on hand to take a number of try scoring passes after some good attacking play by Logan, Gethin and Kiki. Owen, Hannah and the superb Daffydd also crossed for tries as Ponty edged in front 7-6 after the first 20 minutes play.
The second half saw Bradley prominent with some determined tagging and evasive running as he crossed for 2 good tries. Hannah added to her tally with a superb effort from the halfway line. Star of the day was Aidan who crossed for an amazing 6 tries. Brecon battled on but were now showing signs of tiredness as their smaller squad played 40 minutes of rugby.
Cory managed to to round the defence to score in the corner before Daffydd deservedly scored the last try of the game by wrong footing the whole of the Brecon team to speed in the corner.

Ponty Unders 8's welcomed an excellent Ystrad team to Taff Vale park.
The game started off with Ystrad enjoying most of the possession as Ponty tried to get into the game and were forced into a few errors that gave Ystrad the opportunity to score some well taken tries. However, Ponty soon got into their stride and scored some good tries as Kiki took a great long pass and raced over in the corner and Cory outstripped the defence for a well taken try. Ponty hung on to the 2-2 scoreline at half time after some superb last gasp tagging by Owen.
Both teams made a few changes at the break and Cory scored to put Ponty ahead straight from the whistle. As the teams attacked each other at every opportunity the game opened up and Cory added to his tally with another 2 tries including a superb effort from inside his own half. Theo scored a fantastic individual try with a great diagonal run and huge sidestep inside the covering defence. Owen finished the game off by rounding the defence after a good dummy run had caught the Ystrad team flat footed. Great game by both teams!

Aberdare Under 8's were the visitors to the Cilfynydd playing fields on a muddy, wet Sunday morning. To their credit, both teams produced some fantastic rugby and did not let the weather affect their performance.Two games were played with the whole Ponty squad getting a good run out.
The first game proved to be very competitive with Ponty putting the pressure on in defence straight from the off. Christian crossed for the first of his 2 tries after taking a great pass from Kiki out wide. Liam was the next on the score sheet showing great support on the shoulder of Daffydd. Ponty made a few changes to at half time to bring on the straight running Morgan and the tenacious Bradley. Cory sped away for 3 tries in the 2nd half after the whole team had worked well together to create good field position and open spaces.
The second game saw some great individual performances. Aidan went on a number of barnstorming runs up and also showed good support to score a try. Theo showed brilliant hands to take a difficult pass and race over in the corner. A few changes at half time saw the arrival of Hannah and Olivia who immediately made and impact by scoring tries. Gethin had a great game throughout making good headway with his running and also taking some crucial tags.

Ponty Under 8's played 2 games against an excellent Mountain Ash team at Taff Vale park.
The first game was one of the most exciting of the season so far. The game started with both teams showing fantastic defence as the ball was turned over for 6 tags many times as the teams tried too break the deadlock. Liam eventually broke through to put Ponty ahead after a fine passing move up field. The defence of the Ponty team was outstanding with the superb Daffydd leading from the front. Liam completed his hat-trick and Christian rounded off a deserved win with a brilliantly worked try in the corner.
The second game proved to be just as exciting as the first. Bradley had a great game in both attack and defence and the strong running of Logan kept Ponty moving forward as he was backed up by the determined Morgan. Cory broke clear to speed away up the touch line for a fine try. Try of the day went to birthday boy Jimmy as he jinked past several defenders for a superb try in the corner.
Well done to the whole squad - a great effort !!

Ponty under 8's were welcomed by Abercwmboi on a sunny morning for 3 ten minute spells of high quality rugby.
The Abercwmoi teams were excellent as they held a solid line of defence and played a direct style of rugby. Ponty battled throughout with Daffydd, Liam, Olivia, Owen,Theo and Ashton all making good forward runs. Olivia was the first player to cross showing her pace out wide. Lack of composure on occasions gave Abercwmboi too many turnovers, however both Cory and then Kiki both sped over beating several defenders.

UNDER 8's Treorchy 2 - 6 Pontypridd

Ponty under 8's travelled up to Treorchy on a damp Sunday morning and won a hard fought encounter displaying some superb running skills to run in 6 tries.
The stop-start game began with Daffydd opening the scoring after a great diagonal run. After settling in to their stride further tries followed as Liam, Olivia, Christian and Cory all scored with fantastic long range efforts. A brief fightback by Treorchy was stemmed by some last gasp tagging by the likes of Jimmy and Hannah who worked tirelessly. Towards the end of the game Aidan broke the line of defence with a strong run and outstripped the chasing defenders along the touch line for a fantastic try to seal the win.
Well done all !

Ponty u8s played an impressive game of rugby on what was a very warm Sunday morning. It was one of their best games yet. Their passing was superb. There was a real team effort in the game which gave Ponty a comfortable win against a very organised Abercynon defense.

In our second game we saw our newest player Bradley Hawkins play an excellent game of rugby in his debut match. He deservedly scored both tries of the game with the support of his fellow players.

UNDER 8's Rhydyfelin 6 - 5 Pontypridd
TRY Scorers for Pontypridd: Owen Richards, Kiki Mattravers, Christian Cox, Olivia Holmes & Cory Gazzard.
Ponty Under 8's played in a friendly round robin fixture against local teams Porth and Rhydyfelin. The first game was against a strong Porth team who had impressed in their game against Rhydyfelin.
The first half performance was the best we have seen so far this season as the team held their defencive line superbly and were ruthless in attack. Tries from Liam, Cory,and a first for Daffydd saw Ponty take a comfortable 3 nil lead into half time. After a complete change of team, the second half was again impressive although Porth did narrow the gap. Some excellent passing put Olivia and Hannah away for great tries on either side of the pitch.
The second game against Rhydyfelin was end to end with both teams willing to attack at every opportunity but both teams missing the odd tag through tired legs. Ponty scored some excellent individual tries by Kiki, Christian and Olivia and the young Rhydyfelin team replied with some fantastic tries of their own. Corys fine long pass to put Owen away for a score in the corner was the highlight of the game for Ponty. The game finished with Rhyd weaving their way to the line to edge this entertaining game.

UNDER 8's Pontypridd 10 - 4 Senghenydd
Ponty Under 8's produced a superb team performance on a wet and windy morning at Sengenydd.
Ponty started the game strongly putting pressure on the opposition in defence and showing good awareness in attack. Tries by Olivia, Liam and Cory put Ponty into a comfortable lead after they had worked hard for several turnovers.
The squad was rotated at half time but still Ponty continued to play exciting rugby with some fantastic tries scored by Hannah, Liam, Ashton, Gethin and Logan. Senghenydd battled on and raced away for several tries to always keep in touch. Dafydds first game for the club was outstanding showing great enthusiasm in attack and defence!

The first game started with Cowbridge scoring a try straight from the off. Ponty soon regathered though with some solid defence with Gethin, and Chistian both standing out. Some surging runs by Logan and Owen tirelessly supported by Morgan created try scoring opportunities for Olivia to race away for 3 tries.
Hannah's weaving run from the halfway line was the highlight of the day for the excited crowd. Ponty finished on top after the first game. The second game was equally competitive. Debutant Kian impressed by crossing for 2 tries and Morgan was also rewarded for his hard work with a try.
